Standards in the 2501 geotechnical series (soil)
The BNQ published a series of a Canadian national standards in the geotechnical field (series 2501). The fifteen or so standards included in the series suggest test methods for determining the properties and technical characteristics of soils. Some of these standards describe laboratory test methods, while other methods are based in the field using specialized equipment. The results of these tests are used to design or check the quality of civil engineering structures. A few of the topics covered by these standards include:
- Inorganic soil particle size
- Determination of volumetric mass density of existing soils
- Density of cohesionless soil
- Soil liquid limit
- Soil plastic limit
- Soil permeability
- Water content/volumetric mass relationship in compacted soils
